Using sunscreen is crucial for protecting the skin from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Leaving the skin unprotected from UV rays can lead to skin damage, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer. Sunscreen acts as a barrier that absorbs or reflects UV radiation, reducing its penetration into the skin. Making a habit of regular application helps prevent sunburn and discoloration, promoting an even skin tone. It is essential for maintaining skin health in all seasons, not just during summer.
I’ve tried quite a bit of sunscreens and while some of them are good, there are others I wouldn’t touch again. In this post, I wanted to do a quick roundup of some of my favorite Korean sunscreens.
Innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36
The Innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36 is by far my favorite sunscreen ever. The formula feels like a light lotion. It isn’t greasy or oily. There are some sunscreens that feel like spreading a layer of cooking oil on your face and there isn’t that feeling here at all.
This sunscreen absorbs easily into the skin and leaves no white cast. Equally as important (to me), this sunscreen performs well under makeup. I’ve tried sunscreen that will ball up or cake under makeup and this doesn’t do that. It just feels like you’ve applied a layer of lotion.
This sunscreen is also formulated with great ingredients like green tea and cica which both help in soothing and calming the skin, perfect for those hot summer days.
Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water Fit Sun Serum
SKIN1004’s Water Fit Sun Serum is formulated with hyaluronic acid and Centella Asiatica, two powerhouse ingredients for hydration and skin protection. Hyaluronic acid is one of my favorites for keeping skin plump and moisturized, while Centella Asiatica not only offers sun protection but also soothes inflammation and deeply hydrates the skin. Together, these ingredients create a sunscreen that not only shields the skin from UV damage but also provides lasting hydration and comfort.
When it comes to sunscreens, I have high standards, and the Water Fit Sun Serum exceeded my expectations. Unlike other sunscreens that have left my skin feeling tight and dry, this one felt lightweight and nourishing. The combination of Centella Asiatica and hyaluronic acid kept my skin moisturized without making it oily or greasy. Another major plus is that it leaves no white cast, avoiding the dreaded greyed-out look that many sunscreens cause. It also layers beautifully under makeup, without causing separation or altering the color of the foundation. Overall, this sunscreen is a fantastic option for those looking for effective sun protection with a hydrating, skin-friendly formula.
Goodal Heartleaf Cooling Stick
I picked up the Goodal Heartleaf Cooling Stick sunscreen on my recent trip to Korea. Since I had a lot of redness in my cheeks and because summers in Texas tend to be ferociously hot, I was looking for a sunscreen that had a cooling effect also.
I had never tried a sunscreen stick and I’d never tried heart leaf as a skincare ingredient but I was super impressed by this sunscreen. It’s formulated with ten hyaluronic acids so that it helps keep the skin moisturized. The heart leaf ingredient soothes and reduces inflammation and is great on sensitive skin. If you have acne prone or sensitive skin, this sunscreen stick will be great for you.
I also love this sunscreen stick because it isn’t greasy, it doesn’t leave your skin sticky, and it looks great underneath makeup. This is one of the few sunscreen sticks I tried that truly felt like it disappeared into the skin. When using a sunscreen stick, I feel like I’m using a facial sculptor which is a bonus.
I love this little sunscreen stick and I was glad I bought it on a 1+1 deal at Olive Young when I was in Seoul.
Sunscreen is a must-have for protecting your skin from harmful UV rays, which can cause damage, premature aging, and even increase the risk of skin cancer. Without proper protection, UV exposure can lead to sunburn, discoloration, and long-term skin concerns. Sunscreen acts as a powerful shield, either absorbing or reflecting UV radiation to minimize its impact. It’s definitely a non-negotiable step of any skincare regimen. And it’s not just for summer—UV rays are present year-round, making sunscreen an essential step in any skincare routine, no matter what season it is.
