Makeup Tricks I’ve Learned Over the Years

I’ve been a fan of makeup since I was eighteen (I am now another number that is more than that) and there have been a few tips and tricks I have accumulated while participating in the makeup game. I hope some of these will you boys and girls out there.

Incorporate a Bun Maker Into Your Eyeshadow Routine

Mixing colors on your eyeshadow brush will make a gross colored mess. There are dry brush cleaners that exist (like this one from Sephora) that make removing eyeshadow color and brush cleaning on the fly easy.Even though these are super convenient, these are still eighteen bucks and, friends, it doesn’t have to be! You can totally DIY this and it will cost you almost nothing.A bun maker from your local dollar store will work just as great as this one you buy from Sephora. Bun makers are mesh donuts that one loops their hair through and wrap their hair around to make a bun.To clean a brush using the bun maker, simply rub the bristles of your brush onto the surface of the mesh bun maker for a couple of seconds. The small holes and pockets of the mesh bun maker dislodge the powder that is sitting on the brush. After a few seconds, your brush will be free of color and ready for a new color!

Harness the Power of Baby Powder

Baby powder has so many DIY uses in the world of makeup.First, if you want thicker, fuller lashes, apply a bit of baby powder to your lashes in between coats of mascara and voila! You have thicker fuller lashes, friend.Second, instantly make your lipstick more long lasting with baby powder. Applying a thin layer of tissue on your lips and then dusting baby powder over it will help it stay put longer and help it transfer less!Third, baby powder as setting powder. The best setting powders are the finely milled kind and when you’re out of your favorite setting powder, baby powder can work in a pinch. Help keep shine away and set your makeup with powder originally intended for infant tushies!

Set Your Pencil Liner

Let’s be honest with each other. A pencil liner that is transfer proof and smudge proof is REALLY HARD to come by. To this day, no matter the lofty claims of this makeup company or that makeup company that their pencil liner is smudge proof, that is NEVER the case. I have not yet found that magical liner that have stayed on my face through oil and sweat. However, I found that going over your pencil liner with a similar color eyeshadow effectively sets your pencil liner and works wonders in helping it last longer. Similar to the concept of using powder to set your foundation and keep it from moving around, I found that going over pencil liner with powder will also prevent it from moving around.

Make Nail Polish Last Longer with Top Coat

If you don’t top coat after you apply nail polish, I’d like to take this opportunity to advocate its use. Your nail polish will last THAT much longer, I swear. On top of that, if you want to help your nail polish last way longer than that and you’re willing to go the extra mile, try applying top coat to your nail art every other day. I know that is so cumbersome and so annoyingly time consuming, but I promise you that your polish will last longer and have longer life to them.

Sanitize Your Makeup Items With Isopropyl Alcohol

Makeup brushes, creams, and powders can be a cesspool or bacteria. Sanitizing them frequently can go a long way in preventing breakouts. Also, it’s great not putting bacteria on your face.Simply pour undiluted isopropyl alcohol into a spray bottle and give your brushes and makeup a few spritzes. Alcohol dries quickly and wouldn’t damage your precious goods.

I hope some of these tips and DIYs have been helpful to you guys. Now that you know some tricks, I hope you go forth and conquer!
