Review: RiRe Lip Powder Set
RiRe Lip Powder Set, A Review
Hello, lovers and friends! I was gifted this lip powder set for Christmas and it wouldn't be me if I didn't rip them open way before Christmas and smear them on my face. I had never heard of lip powders before and it sounded gimmicky to me. I've tested this out for the last couple of days and now I have thoughts. Which I will now tell lovely people such as yourselves.
What is the RiRe Lip Powder Set?
RiRe is a cosmetics company based in South Korea and the lip powder set is one of their products. The product is supposed to sit as a powder in its container but upon application to the lips, turns into a moist creamy liquid. The applicator is pointed and the bottle itself is teardrop-ish shaped. The set I have comes with four colors: Orange Pop, Hot Plum, Sugar Rose, & Fashion Red. In the set is also a lip remover tube you can use for easy removal. This guy is available for purchase at Amazon for about $18.
RiRe Lip Powder High Points
As I was reviewing this lip powder, I really wanted it to be awesome because I had never heard of a powder to cream lip product before and I had a few misgivings about it.HOWEVER, upon testing it out, I was surprised that it DOES turn creamier upon application on the lips. The colors are not what I would call bold. If you have dabbled in Korean makeup before, you'll know that most lip colors are very pinkish and peachy and more subdued. It's like perpetual spring over there in terms of lip colors. I knew to expect this though so it really didn't bother me that the colors didn't POP the way other lipstick colors stateside do.I also like that the finish of the lip powder is very natural. Very "this is how my lips actually look, what?" vibe to them. It's very apropos for spring which is fast approaching here in Texas. Fashion Rose, in particular, is a beautiful terracotta-ey color that is very natural and perfect for every day.I also like how the bottles were designed. Inside is a little stopper that you have to wrench the applicator out of to use. The stopper keeps the powder from flying out of the bottle and all over the place. It also helps when you tip the bottle over so all the powder doesn't create a mess and keeps it secure.Another high point for the lip powder is that it has very little transfer. Once the lip powder has set, for the most part, it stays on your lips... until you eat it off.For something that seemed gimmicky, it gets the job done.
RiRe Lip Powder Low Points
I had accepted that this wasn't going to POP the way a lot of lipsticks do but I was disappointed with the color payoff. I had to dip back into the bottle pass over my lips several times to get the lipstick to look decent.
From top to bottom: Fashion Red, Sugar Rose, Hot Plum, Orange Pop
Adding to the need to go over it several times is the lip powders' inherent patchiness. This is a powder that you have to smear to become creamy and because powder doesn't cover the same surface area that a cream lipstick would, you would get patches of your lips that don't have product on them and you would have to go over again and again just to get your lips looking uniform.Another gripe I have is that if your lips are even a little bit dry, these will CLING to all the dry patches on your lips and the end result is just a hot mess. Similarly, this lip product is not moisturizing at all. It didn't leave my lips feeling stripped of moisture but it definitely didn't help keep them moisturized. It's dry to the touch and in my opinion, behaved more like a tint than a cream lipstick. It's also very strange that swatching them on my arm always got a good color payoff but swatching them on my lips was a lot of work. The skin on your arm and the skin on your lips are different from each other and I was just disappointed that it looks great on my arm but just alright on my lips.
RiRe Lip Powder Set Final Review
It's a cute and fun idea. The initial reaction is definitely "WHAAAAAT" followed by "LET ME TRY!" The colors are really pretty but don't really show all that well on my lips. This is hell on earth for dry lips or under moisturized lips. It's fun and cute and on days when I'm feeling fun and cute and gimmicky, I'll pull it out. I doubt it'll be part of my daily routine, however.
There you are, people! This was a neat gift and the idea is certainly unique. I hope this was entertaining somewhat and I hope you all go out there and conquer!
