In an attempt to diversify the types of skincare I use, I decided to pick up the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre and give it a try.

What is Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre's Claim to Fame?

Embryolisse Laboratories and its product, Lait-Creme Concentre, was made by an unnamed dermatologist in an unnamed hospital in Paris in 1950. The box and the one page pamphlet that came with the moisturizer claims that the moisturizer became a fast favorite because of its "amazing effectiveness." It also claims that, now, sixty-five years later, it is a legend and a cult favorite in the beauty world, used by professional makeup artists, models and actress to prime their face. The moisturizer claims that it is perfect as a moisturizer, a makeup primer, a moisturizing mask, and as after shaving care.Okay, let's pump the breaks here. This a lot of big talk. Seriously? A legend? This box is making this moisturizer like it's the stuff the gods themselves rely on for skin hydration. Personally, speaking as a skincare addict, it's just moisturizer. It's not that deep. No need to all but deify a moisturizer. Calm down.Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre boasts ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax, aloe vera, as well as hyaluronic acid and collagen.Shea butter is rich in Vitamins A, D, E, and F and is an ingredient widely used in lotions and moisturizers for its ability to help skin retain elasticity and help it attain and maintain a smooth, silky texture.Aloe vera has all sorts of amazing skincare benefits. Not only does it help hydrate and lock in moisture in the skin, it helps combat against free radicals that may be damaging to your skin. The product itself is thick and white and very heavy on the skin. It also has a very heavy fragrance that reminds me of strong baby powder. You can find the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre on Amazon and at the time this post is published, it's $21.95.

Let's Not Beat Around the Bush, I Didn't Like This Product

This is a first for me. This is the first time I had nothing good to say about a product I reviewed. To put it plain and simple, I HATED this moisturizer. The first thing I hated was the texture. This is the thickest moisturizer I've ever put on my face. The product claims that is made with beeswax and essential fatty acids and I can feel it. If you've ever put heavy duty body sunscreen and felt how thick that is, that is basically how this moisturizer feels. The ONLY way I could imagine this is helpful is that if someone with EXTREMELY dry skin uses this. Even then, I would say there are better products on the market. It is also very heavily fragranced. The fragrance is so heavy and smells entirely flowery and powdery. Those with super sensitive skin and especially sensitive to fragrance will find this a nightmare. The final thing that caused me to HATE this product is that it broke me out like crazy. My skin is the type that once it breaks out because of one thing or another, it will take weeks, sometimes months, for it to go back to a happy, non-irritated normal. And so now that this moisturizer has broken out my face, it'll take a few more weeks for my skin to stop sounding the alarm and go back to normal.I looked up exactly what in this ingredient list had my skin reacting so poorly. Two ingredients raised a red flag: stearic acid and triethanolamine. Stearic acid is a naturally occurring saturated fatty acid and is a waxy solid. While it occurs in both plants and animals, it is primarily derived from the stomach of pigs. Stearic acid can also be found in candles, hairspray, some lubricants, and CAN cause irritation in some people. So yeah, this is gross. The other problematic ingredient in this is triethanolamine. Triethanolamine is a pH balancing ingredient found in many cosmetics, shampoos, and shaving foams. One, triethanolamine has been shown to be a respiratory allergen. Two, there is strong evidence that it causes contact dermatitis in some people. After reading all of these, I'm pretty sure that it is the stearic acid and the triethanolamine in this moisturizer that caused me to break out. I don't appreciate it and as soon as I figured it out, I quit using it right away. My skin has started to bounce back some but now I'm out twenty-one bucks.

The Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre is a Bust

I don't recommend this product. I didn't have a very good reaction to it and my skin is just in the normal levels of sensitivity. I imagine that if you have super sensitive skin this would not be very good for you.
