In 2024, the way I used makeup was much different than in other years. 2024 was a much less playful year for me when it comes to makeup and my needs were much more utilitarian. I was much more concerned with making sure the makeup I used lasted all day with me and worked with my specific features. I needed makeup that could either didn’t smudge the longer I wore it or were able to work with my skin, lashes, and brows in the way I wanted them to. In the end, my three favorite makeup items of 2024 ended up accomplishing at least one of these goals.

One Size On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray

My number one favorite makeup item was the One Size On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray. This retails for $32 but it’s 3.4 ounces and as big as a can of hairspray. To me, that is well worth the money. This is hands down the best setting spray I’ve ever tried in my whole life. This setting spray claims to keep makeup on and in place for 16 hours. While I’ve never had makeup on that long, I’ve had makeup on for eight hours in this Central Texas heat and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my makeup didn’t move at all.

I usually get smudging around my eyes after a few hours because of the way my eyes are shaped. My eyeliner and my mascara would leave me with raccoon eyes but this didn’t happen at all when I used the One Size setting spray.

The finish is definitely matte so I find myself applying highlighter after I’ve already done setting spray but I don’t really mind. I love having my makeup stay on my face where I put it until I take it off.

I’ve heard some folks complaining that it smells kind of like hairspray but I haven’t had that problem myself. The aerosol spray is also really nice and sprays a nice fine mist. I loved this so much that I bought the travel size so I can take it with me wherever I happen to go.

Etude House Curl Fix Mascara

This mascara has been my absolute favorite for months and months now. I have unruly eyelashes that fall down no matter what I tried doing to it. That was until I tried the Etude House Curl Fix Mascara.

After using this mascara, my lashes appear much longer and are lifted beautifully. This is definitely more of a curling and lengthening formula and not volumizing but I still love it for what it does. It lifts, lengthens, and separates and makes my eyelashes look long and beautiful.

I loved this mascara so much that I’ve gifted it to friends and they also absolutely loved it. We were all shocked at how lovely the mascara made our lashes look.

This formula claims to last for 24 hours. I’ve never had mascara on for that long but it does require a bit of effort to get off. I rubbed at my lashes accidentally while wearing this and this didn’t flake off or smudge in the least.

You’ll need a really good oil cleanser to get this off because this has really good staying power.

Patrick Ta Major Brow Lamination

Speaking of unruly hair, my last favorite 2024 makeup item is the Patrick Ta Major Brow Lamination Gel. Like my eyelashes, my eyebrows have a mind of their own. To make it worse, my right and left eyebrow hairs grow in two different patterns. One is more square-like and the other is rounder. I’ve tried many eyebrow gels to help keep it in place and absolutely none have held my hair in place.

That was until I got to try this product in a trial size. This has been the only brow gel to hold my brow hairs in place all day but doesn’t leave it looking greasy or clumpy like you’ve attacked it with glue. After I tried it, I turned right back around and bought the full size.

This product comes clear which is great if you want to use it before or after brow pencils or other brow products. I also love the applicator for this. One side is a tiny comb and the other side is flat for laying down hairs. The best part is this is also an all-day hold type of product. My eyebrows stayed in the position I’ve left it in all day without moving.

You’ll also need a good oil cleanser to remove this product gently. Otherwise, you might end up pulling some brow hairs.

While the other products in my makeup routine changes every now and then, these three products have been mainstays. In fact, I use these three products so often that I’d be really said if they were ever discontinued.
