Favorite Skincare of 2024

Much like my makeup habits, my skincare habits for 2024 have been all about efficiency and utilitarianism. I’m pretty blessed not to have too many skin problems which I’m thankful to my parents and ancestors for. There are some things I do have to be mindful of when it comes to my skin though. I’ve got combination skin. My t-zone is pretty oily while my cheeks are dry. My skin also tends to break out when I visit other places other than home. (Maybe it’s the water?) Most of the items on this (very) short list tend to address one of these issues.
Mediheal Collagen Ampoule Pad
The Mediheal Collagen Ampoule Pads have been my absolute favorite toner pads this year. I use this sleep mask on my cheeks after washing my face. My cheeks get very dry quickly and they need additional and more targeted hydration. I pop a sheet on for each cheek after a face wash and go about brushing my teeth and doing body care while I leave it on. Then I take the pads off and sweep the rest over my face before moving on the the rest of my skincare regimen.
My cheeks feel more hydrated and bouncy after using this on my cheeks. The main ingredient of this particular pad is collagen which helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as help to restore elasticity of the skin. I also want to try the teatree and the watermide versions also. My cheeks tend to have the most redness and feels hot sometimes (maybe why is dry?) so I hope the teatree will help. The watermide will hopefully bring moisture back to the area.
innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36
If there was one item I rebought repeatedly at Sephora, it was the innisfree Daily UV Defense Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 36. I rebought this so many times in 2024 that it pushed me to VIB in Sephora (not yet Rouge. as penny pincher, am proud of this). When the larger 100 ml size came out, I definitely bought that one instead of the original 50 ml.
This sunscreen for me works the best out of the ones I’ve tried so far (although the goodal Heartleaf cooling sun stick is getting up there). The innisfree sunscreen glides on smoothly and absorbs really nice into the skin. There isn’t any greasy residue afterwards for me. It doesn’t pill up or rub off when applying makeup. This has been my favorite sunscreen of 2024 and definitely will be taking to 2025.
Sleep Masks
I did a little more traveling in 2024 than I did in 2023. I was able to travel internationally twice. I was able to visit friends in different cities and see my parents more often. That much traveling tends to wear my skin out, however. I usually break out around my chin region when I have to sleep away from home. I don’t sleep well in places I’m not used to so I usually also stay up way longer than I should because I’m trying to fall asleep. I’ve puzzled over the breakouts while traveling for a long time until I started using sleep masks as a substitute for a night cream. Substituting a sleep mask for a night cream when traveling cleared up my travel breakouts pretty much instantly.
Sleep masks provide intense hydration and sometimes other benefits more so than a normal moisturizer or cream. It’s designed to slowly seep into skin as you sleep and provide skincare benefits as you sleep. You have to wash this off when you wake up but using this instead of a cream or moisturizer at night has been a lifesaver for my skin and basically brought my breakouts to zero when away from home. I’ve tried many sleeping packs and haven’t disliked many but the LANEIGE Water Sleeping Mask is and has always been a favorite of mine.
Most of my needs for skincare in 2024 has been for utilitarian uses. I wasn’t really as adventurous as I was in previous years. I found myself reaching for items that I know works well. I hope I can get to try many more products this year and maybe discover some new favorites.
